Good day to you, dukes and duchess. Today we will be talking about Justice League Dark. Before I start, I would like to warn you guys that this article would contain spoilers in the movie, so if you haven’t seen it and don’t want to be spoiled on the events in the movie, you are free to go.
Now let’s talk about Justice League Dark. I am really glad that they re-cast Matt Ryan as John Constantine. I mean, who else can you think of who can portray the Master of the Dark Arts (No offense to Keanu Reeves, I think he did a great impression of Constantine). The story revolves around in the mystical aspect of the DC Universe and the dangers it possess. In the movie, the Justice League, specifically Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman, have seen some weird things happening around the globe and that they can’t explain it. Batman then looks for John Constantine with the help of Zatanna, Deadman, Jason Blood with Etrigan the Demon, and Swamp Thing to stop Destiny, a knight who was corrupted by the Dreamstone. Eventually, we get to see the team fight Destiny and defeat him but before he was defeated, Jason Blood and Etrigan the Demon was separated, making him lose his immortality. In the end, Destiny was defeated for good. John and Zatanna was then recruited by the League which they think they need to reconsider.
All in all, JLD is a good movie. It has a great story and great characters. The movie focused primarily in the mystical aspect of the DC Universe and we get to see other characters that new fans to DC will have a liking to. We also got a chance to see the ever expanding roster of the Justice League. We can see that John Stewart- one of the Green Lanterns, Martian Manhunter, and Hawkman are already in the League.
Now we go to the moral of the film. Yup, it has a moral. During the duration of the movie, we get to see Constantine and his relationships with the other members of the Justice League Dark. He was pretty much hated by almost all of them. Zatanna and John probably has some romantic history together. Jason Blood and Constantine probably hates John with some reasons. Ritchie clearly hates Constantine. Swamp Thing also hates Constantine or pretty much every human being because of destroying the green. But throughout the movie, they get to set aside their difference and trust Constantine. Trust him in a sense that they know he usually decides badly but they trusted him knowing that it will be for the better even though the price is high and usually it will cost someone’s life. ut all along we get to see the members trust Constantine and it’s a good message for all of us. We need to trust others even though it may depend our life to it. If we know that the decision is for the betterment of the society and would require a little sacrifice of our ego, then let it be. We all need to sacrifice something in order to gain something better, we all just need to trust each other.
My rating? I give this movie 10/10 for being great and at the same time new in the DC Animated Universe. I recommend this movie to other DC fans out there and also to other Comic Book fans. I am pretty sure you’ll like it, most especially to Constantine.
So, that’s it for now. I hope you guys like my review for this movie. Stay tune for my next post.
